Bio
John grew up in Dundee, Illinois, and graduated from Concordia College-River Forest, Illinois in 1980. He taught seventh and eighth grades at Zion Lutheran in Matteson, Illinois from 1980-1981 when he received his call to Racine Lutheran High School in Racine. In his 30 years of teaching here, he has taught all levels of English, American History, Freshman Theology, and Drama. He was also librarian from 1991-1993. Extracurricular experience includes Student Council and Drama. John currently teaches AP English Literature, English Literature, American Literature, Drama, Literary Types, and Shakespeare. He directs the school plays, orders textbooks and workbooks, and updates the clock schedules.
John married Paula in 2004 and instantly had two teenage stepchildren, Mike and Hans. He lives on a farm with two dogs, three cats, and chickens that provide fresh eggs. When he has free time, John likes to read, write, sing in the St. Johns choir, and help with plays at the Racine Theater Guild. He would like to have his novel, On the Edge of a Dream, published some day.
In April 2011, John was named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction.
