Playing with Wood!

Racine Lutheran High School’s wonderful Woodcrafting students constructed a sensory table for the preschool classroom at St. John’s Lutheran School.  SJL preschool teacher Jill Hasseldahl partnered with RLHS teacher Nate Bickel.  They utilized Thrivent Community Impact seed money to purchase project supplies and benefit our future Crusaders.

“We are so thankful for such great blessings God gives us through RLHS,” said Mrs. Hasseldahl.

SJL Principal Kevin Charpentier concurred, stating:  “We are grateful for the talents and partnership we share in Lutheran education.”

Helping a Crusader! Thank you!!!

One of our RLHS families recently endured a house fire.  Fortunately, no one was injured; however, the family is still dealing with challenges.  We want to thank all the RLHS employees and students who donated money and participated in special “Sweats Days” to show support for their friend and classmate.  Today, Mr. Burgess and Mr. Bickel presented the family with the Crusaders’ contributions.  Please keep them in your prayers!

Congratulations, Baseball Players! JT Team of the Week!

Racine Lutheran-Prairie baseball

The L-Ps have had an impressive run the last couple weeks and it continued last week with three victories.

Leading off the week May 16 was the biggest game of the season for Lutheran-Prairie, the annual Silver Spikes game against St. Catherine’s. The L-Ps finally broke through after five years, retaking the Silver Spikes Trophy for the first time since 2010 with a 9-2 victory over the Angels.

Lutheran-Prairie won two more games last week, beating Kenosha St. Joseph 5-2 last Tuesday and 11-4 Thursday, victories that extended their winning streak to eight.

The L-Ps had their streak snapped Friday with a 4-0 loss to Union Grove.

Journal Times Player of the Week

Claire Rosenberg, Racine Lutheran

The Racine Lutheran softball team is on a roll and Claire Rosenberg is right in the middle of it.

The senior had big performances in both of the Crusaders’ victories last week, giving them five victories in their last six games.

Last Thursday, Rosenberg pitched a four-hitter in a 12-1 Metro Classic Conference victory over Kenosha St. Joseph. At the plate, she went 2 for 3 with two doubles.

May 9, Rosenberg showed some power, hitting a three-run home run in a 16-1 nonconference victory over Kenosha Christian Life. She pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts.

Congratulations, Rachel Hasko!

As published in the Journal Times on May 14, 2016:

For the record(s), Hasko excels

Rachel Hasko has the best of both worlds at Racine Lutheran.

Check that — Hasko IS the best of both worlds at Lutheran.

The senior holds the career assist records in both basketball and soccer with the Crusaders. She finished her basketball career with 197 assists and is at 18 assists in soccer with a couple weeks left in the regular season.

Hasko is also second all-time in both basketball scoring and single-season assists.

She has been playing soccer longer than basketball — she began soccer at age 4 and basketball at age 9 — but said basketball has become her No. 1 sport. She still plays for the Racine United soccer club in the fall.

“They used to be close, but during my sophomore year, basketball took over,” Hasko said. “I’ve had a natural passion for basketball since I started, so I kept working harder and getting better and better.”

Hasko will be taking an ambitious schedule this fall when she attends Lakeland College in Howards Grove, just outside Sheboygan. She played in a fall exposure league and was recruited to play basketball for the Muskies, but she earned a potential spot on the soccer team as well.

“I originally had intentions of doing basketball only,” Hasko said. “I talked to the soccer coach while I was there on my official visit and gave her a copy of my resume. She said if you want a spot, you have it.”

She likes Lakeland, which has a student body of under 4,000, for two reasons. It’s small, and she’s used to that having attended Lutheran, which has an enrollment in the low 200s. And it’s a Christian school to serve her spiritual needs.

“I wanted another smaller school because I work better in smaller setting,” Hasko said.

Lutheran soccer coach Kevin McNamara knows Lakeland is getting the real deal with Hasko.

“Her work ethic is off the charts,” McNamara said. “She’s a great worker and she gets everyone to work that much harder. She’s just a gifted athlete, no matter what she does.

“She definitely going to be missed.”

Crusaders basketball coach Ben Walther said it isn’t just her athletic ability that will be missed.

“She is thoughtful and kind and always willing to help her friends and classmates in many ways,” Walther said in an email. “Rachel has always put forth great effort and strives to be the best student she possibly can be.”
