Racine Lutheran High School announces Veterans Project Dedication
Racine Lutheran High School will dedicate its newly created Veterans Project on Friday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the school, 251 Luedtke Avenue. The RLHS Veterans Project honors the alumni who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The VFW will provide the Color Guard and 21-gun salute. The RLHS musicians will perform patriotic pieces, and a reception will immediately follow the ceremony. All are welcome.
Two members of the class of 1965, Bruce Canny and David Nass, were instrumental in launching this project. Canny’s poem, Vietnam, They Ask, So What Was It Like?, was written about his tour of duty in the former Republic of Vietnam. The poem has already appeared nationwide, including as part of the Highground Veterans Memorial Park exhibit near Neillsville, Wis. The dynamics of the poem struck a chord with Nass, and he used his musical talents to transform the poem into a powerful piece titled Good-Bye, Good-Bye. Both men will be in attendance and recognized at the dedication ceremony.
The RLHS Veterans Project plaque, which includes the names of alumni who have unselfishly served our country, will be unveiled during the dedication ceremony. The school welcomes assistance in gathering the names of former students who served for their enlistment term (or were shortened due to injuries) in peace or war, as well as those who were wounded, killed in action or died as a result of wounds sustained while serving our country.
