RLHS presents “Cinderella and the Candy Kingdom”

The Racine Lutheran High School Theater Department presents “Cinderella and the Candy Kingdom” by Kelly Lazenby on Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., at the school, 251 Luedtke Avenue.

Everyone in Candy Kingdom has a sweet tooth, except for one poor, country girl:  Cinderella (Haiden Kraus).  She is neglected by her father (Keegan Lucareli), a dentist who is too busy with house calls; overworked by her bitter stepmother (Angelica Salinas); and teased and tormented by her two sticky stepsisters (Hannah Mains, Jesenya Vasquez-Marquez). Meanwhile, Queen Caramel (Kiersten Reynoso), the queen of Candy Kingdom, is throwing a “Gum Ball” for her son, Prince Reese (Jake Tietyen) to find him a bride. Alas, the prince is sour on the idea and is counting on his best friend Hershey (Ben Young) to get him out of it!  With the whole kingdom a-twizzle, Cinderella’s tooth fairy godmother (Jill Rosborough) shows up with her magical helpers, the Peeps (Brittney Harrison, Tessa Meredith, Emma Jung) and arranges for Cinderella to attend the ball. If Cinderella can go to the ball, maybe she will find a charming prince who doesn’t like sweets! The queen thinks Marsha Mallow (Camille Juga) will be a great match for her son, but he is not interested.  After the ball, the queen’s guards, M and M (Samantha Coolidge, Taylor Williams), join the prince and Hershey in the search for the foot that fits the shoe.

Here is the sweetest (and most clever) retelling of the Cinderella tale you’ve ever heard! Filled with candy puns, colorful characters, and comedy, “Cinderella and the Candy Kingdom” is fun for all ages.

Tickets are available at the door:  $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizen (55+) and high school students, and middle school and grade school students are admitted free.  Advance-purchase tickets can be reserved by calling the school at 637-6538.

RLHS FALL CONCERT – THURSDAY, OCT. 18 – 6 P.M.

Update – the RLHS Fall Concert is back to its original date – Thursday, October 18 – with a change in the start time – now 6 p.m.

We apologize for the all the changes.  Our volleyball team’s success resulted in a regional playoff game being scheduled at our school on October 18.   We had hoped to move the concert to Saturday, but many musicians had conflicting schedules.  The concert will be held on Thursday, October 18, but it will start at 6 p.m.

The first part of the concert will be in the Music Room where the choir plus handbell and jazz ensembles will perform.  Musicians and guests will then move to the Cafeteria for the band students’ performances.

Following the concert, guests are encouraged to stay for the volleyball game, which starts at 7 p.m. in the gym.

We appreciate your support of our students and their endeavors.  RLHS is an active place where we celebrate all the students’ God-given talents.

Thursday, October 18

6 p.m. – Concert – Music Room and Cafeteria

7 p.m. – Volleyball Playoff Game – Gym

Thanks!

Alumni Basketball Tourney – November 24

All RLHS graduates (men AND women) are invited to participate in the Alumni Basketball Tournament. It is a wonderful opportunity for classmates and teammates to reconnect and come together for spirited competition and great camaraderie! The event is a day of fun for alumni and not being held as a fundraiser. Come one, come all!

Bring your family and friends to cheer on the players. No admission will be charged, and concessions will be available for purchase. It will be a kid-friendly atmosphere that will include contests during halftime for RLHS future alumni! The cost is $15 per player and includes a 2018 Alumni Basketball Tournament t-shirt and social hour at Buckets Pub following the tournament to give all alumni a chance to catch up on old times. Wear your tournament t-shirt to post-game social hour for complimentary wings, beer and soda.

GAMES
There will be two divisions, Competitive and Semi-Competitive, and you can register a whole team if you have seven players who sign up and all pay together. Otherwise teams will be based on graduation years with participants split depending on number of registered players. Games will be held in a full-court setting and will consist of 10-minute halves (running time until last two minutes of game). Teams will be allowed two timeouts per game. In the event of a tie, the game will go into a 2-minute overtime, and teams will be granted an extra timeout. The tournament will be double elimination, so teams will play at least two games. More detailed information and rules will be sent out prior to the tournament.

GAME SCHEDULES
Schedules will be available closer to the time of the event and will depend on number of registered participants. We will, once again, draw for game times and bracket ahead of time. Players will have a timeline of when they will play before the tournament weekend.
