Racine Lutheran High School Weekly News

The Week of August 26th

The Weekly News contains both NEW! entries for this week, as well as other important information that has been provided before, but still relevant.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE
NEW!
Pick Up & Drop Off
Thank you to the many of you who are following the correct pick up and drop off procedure! It is important that you do not stop in the middle of Luedtke Avenue when dropping off or picking up your child. This creates a dangerous situation for our students who are crossing the street, driving, and parking. There is ample space for this at the back of the school and curbside on the east side of Luedtke after the buses have cleared.
NEW!
JMC Reminders
Please check JMC often for updates on your student’s grades, lunch balances, and other information. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact the school office. In addition to viewing JMC as a webpage, there is a JMC Family App that you can install onto your phone.
NEW!
Breakfast
Breakfast items can be purchased in the cafeteria from 7 until 7:15 a.m. Students will use their lunch accounts to purchase breakfast items.
NEW!
Dress Code Information
The Student Handbook, which includes the Dress Code, is available online https://www.racinelutheran.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/AGENDA-2024-25.pdf.
NEW!
From the Woodshop
With the cold weather coming soon, this might be a good time to check your windows and doors for damaged screens. Mr. Henderson’s Home Repair Class is willing to fix them for you for just the cost of materials. (Small screens $10, Larger/Patio $15-$20.) This is a great opportunity for both you and our students! Please bring your screens to the school by September 3 and they will be fixed and returned to you by September 13. (Be sure to label them with your name.)

Lunch and snacks are served. Many outside vendors also have booths selling a multitude of wonderful things. Lots of help is needed. Interested in getting involved? Come to the planning meeting on September 3.
RLHS VOLUNTEER/FAMILY SERVICE HOURS
Thrift Shop Service Hours
Every family is expected to volunteer at least 20 hours of service each school year (July 1-June 30) to directly benefit RLHS. We ask that six of those hours are spent volunteering at our Thrift Shop. The Thrift Shop is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and is looking for help during morning shifts (10 a.m.-1 p.m.) and afternoon shifts (1 p.m.- 4 p.m.). Students, parents, grandparents, and friends of RLHS are needed to sort, clean, price and display merchandise and work in the store. One adult and one student, or two adults, are needed for each shift. Saturday volunteers are especially needed!
Additional Volunteer Opportunities
In addition to the Thrift Shop, there are many volunteer opportunities available including athletic events (concessions, gate, stats, football chain gang), theatre productions (tickets, concessions), Golf Outing, Harvest Fair, and Grand Gala. We are grateful for your service.
Please Note
RLHS student responsibilities, commitments, and expectations that are part of a sport or club (NHS, Student Council, Student Ambassadors, team events) do not count toward the 20 RLHS service hours.
Schedule Service Hours with Thrift Shop at 1222 Lathrop Ave.
To sort, clean, price and/or help with incoming donations – call Pat Hellenberg 262.498.8851. To help with checkout/cashier – call Barb Tertel 262.632.1070.
Schedule Service Hours with MORE Thrift Shop at 1228 Lathrop Ave.
Call Peggy Groth 262.498.2161 or Judy Lamers 262.321.4095.
Service Hours Bonuses
Once your family completes 20 hours, your student will receive a gift certificate for a free lunch at RLHS! Additionally, at the end of the school year, the three families with the most volunteer hours will be awarded a $50 credit to their RLHS school account, which can be applied toward various expenses such as lunch balance, athletic fee, yearbook, parking pass, and more!
FROM THE ATHLETIC OFFICE
V2 Volleyball Coach Needed
The volleyball program is looking for a JV2 coach for this season. Any questions about the position or the schedule should be directed to Mr. Shaffer. Anyone with any amount of volleyball experience, should consider coaching this fantastic group of girls!
Reminder to Athletes
Athletes must be in school all day to participate in practice or games that day. Exceptions for school-sponsored field trips, college visits, funerals, doctor’s appointments, etc. may be granted by the Athletic Director.
No Vaping
Vaping and smoking at high school events are always prohibited.
Digital Ticketing (Update)
Racine Lutheran will be going to digital ticketing this year. We will be using GoFan which is linked with the WIAA. All Tickets for Fall Events for Football and Volleyball are ready to be purchased. To Purchase a ticket, you can download the GoFan App on your phone, create an account, and then search for Racine Lutheran. You can purchase individual games, or you can purchase a pass.
Two Pass Options Available
A pass just for the Fall Sports Events or a Pass for the Entire School Year. With each pass, you can purchase an Individual, Family of 2, Family of 4, or a Family of 6 pass. All passes are good for our Home Athletic Events Only.
More on Digital Ticketing
With Digital Ticketing, we will be joining Dominican, Martin Luther, and St. Thomas More using GoFan. One nice feature that GoFan has is that our competitions versus these schools will show up on our site even if the games that are played are at their school. Shoreland Lutheran and Racine St. Catherine’s are still currently using Hometown Ticketing. Kenosha St. Joe’s and The Prairie School are still using cash admission.
Student Admission to Games
For our students, they will show their student ID for admission to a game. They do not need to purchase a ticket. I know currently, they do not have an ID so until they do, I will have a staff member from our school at the gate to identify our students. Student IDs are also starting to be required by other schools, so students please keep your Student ID on you when attending Athletic Events. For anyone with a Conference Pass, Future Crusader Pass, or an Adult Crusader Pass, you will just show your pass at the door also. Anyone else with you will need a ticket unless the pass is good for more than one person.
No Outside Food or Drink
For safety reasons, we have implemented a new policy: No outside food or drinks will be allowed into the gymnasium during athletic events. Only food and drinks from our concession stand will be allowed.
Parent Volunteers Needed
We need lots of parental help during Fall season! Please check out the new link and sign up to volunteer. We still have spots to fill for this Fall’s events!

Transportation
After September 1st, we will not be able to get a school bus to transport our students to their athletic events until 4:45pm at the earliest. Charter buses are also becoming increasingly difficult to book. We are making alternate transportation plans as much as possible, but please understand that plans for some events will involve having students and parents drive to games. Please help with carpooling when you are able.
RLHS is on the NFHS Network!
All home Volleyball games will be livestreamed for anyone to view. Many of our away games are webcast on this platform as well.
